Visual have been widely used in communication to convey messages to the public, as well as in propaganda posters and advertising. During the Great War, communication played an important role in shaping the public’s mind set, even until today.
The aim of this essay is to distinguished propaganda from advertising and which strategies evident that could be used effectively in conveying ideas or messages. This paper focuses on the usage of various types of strategies in propaganda and advertising as well as how they change over time. This paper will analyse visual propaganda and advertising that came from World War II Era, with titles “Don’t Let That Shadow touch Them. Buy War Bonds (1942)” and “Community Silverware (1942)” and as comparison, there will be a visual propaganda and advertising that came from the 21st Century, such as “Hellenic Associations of Blood Donors (2013)” and “Dove Advertisement (2000’s).”
